Nav Bharat Jagriti Kendra (NBJK) was established by four graduate engineers in 1971 with the mission to put the last first. Their motto is to establish a progressive, peaceful and just society based on the values of equality, fraternity and mutual help.

The key focus areas are:

Education

  • Schools in Remote Villages: NBJK has set 5 high schools and 3 primary schools in villages where government schools are distant.
  • Remedial Coaching & Orphanage: 100 RCCs providing coaching to more than 4,000 students of class 8th, 9th and 10th, in 80 villages of Hazaribag wherein regular coaching is provided on Maths, Science and English & Extracurricular activities are also organised for children’s overall development. NBJK has also set up an orphanage Lord Buddha Home for Change (LBHC) in 2004 in Bodh-Gaya to provide homely care, which currently houses 48 children in 7 houses.
  • Child Reporters:  Children in schools are made aware about their rights through workshops and events. They are provided training on writing articles and stories and are encouraged to write articles on social issues like dowry, poverty, child marriage, environment, development, etc.
  • Girl Education Sponsorship: NBJK promote girls to complete their schooling and provides tuition fees, books, uniforms and other educational expenses. In return, their parents guarantee by giving a bond on simple paper, against child marriage and ensure for completion of school education till class X without any hurdle posed by family. Thus, ensuring girls education till matriculation and avoiding their early marriage.

Health & Hygiene:

  • Eyecare: There are five hospitals providing check-up and treatment for almost all types of eye problems like cataract surgery, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, Ptosis, squint, etc. catering various districts of Bihar and Jharkhand states of India.
  • Disability & Mental Health: NBJK provides home based physiotherapy, activity of daily living training, vocational training, Home Based Education and advocacy support to get government benefits to the people and children with Intellectual Disability, Locomotor Disability, Visual Impairment, Blindness and Hearing Impaired. It is also engaged into organising health camps and reaching out to people with mental illness and epilepsy.
  • SBi Sanjeevani Clinic on wheels & COVID Relief: NBJK provides primary, curative and referral health services at people’s doorstep across 20 villages with nearly 50,000 population in Bodhgaya and Gaya Sabar blocks of Gaya district. It had organized various Covid Care camps with providing health services along with distribution of food grains to needy and medical equipment’s to practitioners.         

Socio Economic & Livelihood:

  • Holistic Rural Development & Smart Villages: NBJK ensures all round sustainable development of countryside people including installation of signage boards, formation of village development committees, renovation of ponds, trainings, visits and interaction with farmers, arranging drip systems and bio fertilizers, distribution of vegetable kits, etc.
  • Livelihood Promotion: NBJK aims for integrated development through education for children as well as skill development, livelihood support, profitable agriculture for youths, women and farmers, initiatives like community’s access to banking service and digitalization of villages, awareness through counselling camps, empowering activities for rural youths by organizing sport tournaments and celebration of festivals are supported.
  • Youth Vocational Training & Placement:  Around 2,500 rural youngsters were trained and provided market aligned skills to earn a sustainable livelihood with about 60% placement with jobs/self-employment.

Besides, NBJK is also engaged into supporting small initiatives, advocacy and promotes good governance.
