Parinaam Foundation has the vision to create sustainable change that will impact the poor and help them lead better lives by providing them critical social services. Parinaam have connected with over 1 million people through various programmes, transforming one community at a time.

Their programs include:

Diksha Financial Literacy Program: It is designed to help women from low income families with the knowledge and tools they need to manage cash-flow, save safely, plan for the future and make informed, intelligent financial decisions. Parinaam partners with Ujjivan Small Finance Bank to integrate a savings initiative where families open savings accounts and are provided access to essential banking and financial services. Diksha has been recognised and acknowledged as a pioneering programme by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).

It has been compressed into 4 modules:

  • Budgeting: The first step towards financial literacy. Creating budgets to track income and expenses and identifying surplus. Budgeting involves understanding needs and wants and prioritisation of expenses.
  • Saving: Once surplus is identified, they are trained to use banks and their different savings products.
  • Debt Management: Understanding loans as a way of fulfilling emergency needs and goals, proper and timely repayment, and negative effects of loan defaults, credit bureau and its impact.
  • Banking channels and Digitisation: Understanding digital banking and different banking channels available for financial products and transactions.

The Right Project: It harnesses the strengths of three programs-

  • Urban Ultra Poor Program: It has connected with 8850 families in 135 families in Bangalore, residing in urban slums. Parinaam supports them with childcare and education, financial literacy, healthcare, livelihood development, social issues, etc. Resulting in proof of identity, access to government benefits, receiving affordable healthcare and education for children for most of such families.
  • Community Development Program: The effort is to walk together with residents of the communities and set up health care centres, maternity clinics, school buildings, community centres and the like and provide access to solar energy, safe water and more.
  • Academic Adoption Program: It addresses the bottom 5% of the urban poor who live in the city’s slums which helps students with their education, provides long-term mentoring and supports their journey to becoming economically empowered citizens of tomorrow.

The Health Project: Funds are granted to healthcare institutions that need support after exercising due diligence on the institution and assessing their requirements. The purpose is to provide them with immediate relief, medical supplies and equipment, strengthening their infrastructure for the long term.
